Founded in 1876, the Iota Iota Chapter of Sigma Chi is one of the oldest fraternities at the University of Alabama, and is one of the oldest chapters of Sigma Chi Fraternity in the nation. Since our founding at the Capstone, Iota Iota has been consistently recognized decade after decade as one of the top fraternities on campus, and being honored seven times by Sigma Chi Fraternity as a Peterson Outstanding Chapter is a testament to this fact.
Over the past 132 years, the Iota Iota Chapter has produced a large number brothers who have held prominent leadership positions at the University, including Student Government Association presidents, executive officers and senators, Inter-Fraternity Council Officers, Honor Society Officers, Capstone Men (University Ambassadors), and various other leadership positions within the academic colleges. Additionally, Sigma Chi is one of the few houses to have a brother inducted into every class of the Jasons Men’s Honorary since its founding in 1914.
Iota Iota has understandably served as a pivotal part of the lives of so many brothers who have become civic and business leaders after their days at the Capstone. Multiple alumni have risen to become the managing partners of their law firms, executive officers of financial institutions, state judges, successful practicing physicians, Federal lobbyists, and successful businessmen involved in real estate, Wall Street finance, insurance, and sales.
Overall, the Iota Iota Chapter of Sigma Chi has a long tradition of molding young men into the leaders of tomorrow. Please use this Web site to find out more about our rich history at the Capstone, and learn more about possible membership.
